Translational Oncology Lab

Professor Alessandra Gennari leads a multidisciplinary research group focused on clinical and translational oncology, with specific expertise in breast and lung cancer. The team aims to improve patient outcomes by identifying predictive biomarkers and therapeutic targets through the integrated analysis of tumor and host biology. The final goal is to support precision medicine approaches with solid biological rationale.

Alessandra Gennari

Benedetta Conte

The group investigates mechanisms of treatment response and resistance by integrating genomic, immune, and metabolic data from both tumor and the host.

Ongoing projects include the analysis of germline SNPs involved in drug metabolism and immune regulation, the characterization of circulating immune cells through multi-parametric flow cytometry and RNA sequencing at different disease stages, and the study of tumor and plasma metabolomics and lipidomics to uncover metabolic vulnerabilities and their interaction with the immune system. These datasets are analyzed using systems biology and machine learning approaches. The lab maintains strong connections with clinical units, ensuring access to high-quality patient-derived samples and clinical annotation.

The group collaborates with national and international networks and actively participates in clinical trials and translational research projects to bring innovation from bench to bedside. Our ultimate goal is to enhance the efficacy and tolerability of cancer treatments through tailored, patient-centered approaches.
