OUR
HISTORY
The Center was established by the Università del Piemonte Orientale as an interdepartmental center with the current membership of five Departments:
Health Sciences, Translational Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Science and Technological Innovation, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition.
HOW WE STARTED
The idea of establishing a center for translational research in autoimmune diseases in Novara was first conceived in 2011 at the University of Eastern Piedmont, building on the work of the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Autoimmune Diseases (IRCAD).
From the outset, the goal was clear: to create a space where research, healthcare, and innovation could work together to achieve national and international excellence.
In 2016, the Municipality of Novara allocated a 2,000 m² space within the IPAZIA building to the University, designating it as the future site of the research center.
This vision brought together the Piedmont Region and key local stakeholders —including the Province and Municipality of Novara, the Camera di Commercio, the Industrial Union, and the Enne3 Incubator.
In 2012, the City of Novara approved the Integrated Urban Development Plan (P.I.S.U.), funded through the POR-FESR 2007–2013 programme. This plan aimed to revitalize the Sant’Agabio district by establishing a new hub for research and technology.
In 2018, the Interdepartmental Center for Translational Research on Autoimmune and Allergic Diseases (CAAD) was officially inaugurated — marking the first step toward the dynamic, multidisciplinary environment that now characterizes the Ipazia UPO-CAAD Center.
